The Genocide Case Against Israel (Part II)
“The evidence of genocidal intent is not only chilling, it is also overwhelming and incontrovertible," argued South Africa.
While you read this sentence, innocent Palestinians are being slaughtered in barbaric collective punishment mercilessly meted out by the Israeli military.
Soldiers celebrate by dancing and singing as they obliterate villages, echoing declarations from their prime minister to destroy ‘Amalek,’ a biblical reference to a pseudo-mythological entity that in some interpretations can magically transform into livestock.
‘Human animals’ has hence been adopted by the occupiers to describe the tens of thousands of murdered mothers and fathers and sons and daughters and aunties and children.
More than 23,000 innocent people have been massacred, and more than 60,000 injured in the mass slayings—with another 7,000 missing, thought buried beneath the rubble.
These were among the gruesome details methodically outlined by South Africa in its case for genocide before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), while the U.S., in a joint operation with the U.K., illegally bombed sites within Yemen, a sovereign nation. We’ve warned of the potential for a larger conflict in previous episodes, and felt compelled to share our conversation about all this yet again. (Check out our pod featuring international human rights attorney Francis Boyle).
“The evidence of genocidal intent is not only chilling, it is also overwhelming and incontrovertible,” said South African attorney Tembeka Ngcukaitobi.
“Nothing will stop the suffering except an order from this court,” South African attorney Adila Hassim told the panel of judges.
“Each day, entire multigenerational families will be obliterated. And yet, more Palestinian children will become WCNSF—Wounded Child No Surviving Family, the terrible new acronym borne out of Israel’s genocidal assault on the Palestinian population in Gaza,” said Irish lawyer Blinne Ní Ghrálaigh, a member of the South African contingent.
Will Israel be found culpable of genocide? What’s the background of the court’s president presiding over deliberations? How many more innocent people must be killed before the world meaningfully acts to stop such heinous atrocities?!?
